WAILA! MAKING THE PEOPLE HAPPY explores the relationship music has on contemporary Native family, community, and culture. Played at Tribal functions, this fun lively music offers a little relief from the hardships of reservation life. Often called “chicken scratch,” Waila, the contemporary dance music of southern Arizona’s tribal communities is told through the Joaquin families three generations of Waila musicians.
