Watchers of the North is an action-packed six part documentary adventure series following the training, patrols and search & rescue missions of Canadian Rangers in two Nunavut communities.

And who are the Canadian Rangers? The Canadian Rangers are a volunteer reserve branch within the Canadian Forces. Their job? They act as a military presence in the North, and in remote and sparsely populated parts of Canada. Canadian Ranger patrols are made up of Inuit, Métis, First Nations and non-Aboriginal men and women, depending on the region. You’ll find them conducting surveillance and sovereignty patrols in the North and acting as guides, scouts, and experts when Regular Forces need wilderness and Arctic survival skills. They are also trained in basic First Aid and Search and Rescue skills, and often act as first responders and Search teams before other help can arrive!

Episode Descriptions:

101:    New Recruits – Three new recruits go through training to see if they have what it takes to become the newest members of Taloyoak’s Canadian Rangers.

102:    Search and Rescue – A realistic Search and Rescue exercise brings out difficult memories for a lost hunter.

103:    The NWS Patrol – A snowmobile breakdown challenges the Gjoa Haven Rangers as they check on a radar station and an abandoned DEW line site.

104:    Arctic Presence Patrol – Snowmobile breakdowns and a Ranger falling sick on the land threaten a seemingly routine patrol.

105:    The Junior Rangers – A revealing look into life in the Far North among Inuit teenagers who join the Junior Canadian Rangers.

106:    The Fishing Derby – The Canadian Rangers test ice safety before the whole town heads out for the annual spring fishing competition.
