Kristine Stolakis

Kristine Stolakis is a BAFTA nominated documentary director and producer dedicated to making creative and well-researched films for a wide audience. She is currently directing my debut feature film PRAY AWAY about the history and continuation of the reparative therapy or “pray the gay away” movement with my production company, Paper Bridge Films.

Her films have played at festivals internationally, including Hot Docs, DOC NYC, the United Nations Association Film Festival, and the Frontline Club of London among others. Where We Stand recently traveled the country and was nominated for a BAFTAThe Typist was nominated for Best Documentary Short by the Toronto International Film and Video Association, played in festivals internationally, inspired a Buzzfeed feature, and was shown at The National Gallery of Art and Alaska Airlines. Her film Balancing Act is currently an “Editor’s Pick” on The Atlantic, and her piece The Accidental Environmentalist kicked off Yahoo’s Viewfinder series. She is currently a producer on the documentary feature film ATTLA , a co-production of ITVS and Vision Maker Media. She has also created content for news outlets including The New Yorker, Mother Jones, and NPR affiliate KALW – San Francisco. She lectures at Stanford University and University of San Francisco. She proudly hails from central New York and North Carolina.

She holds an M.F.A. in Documentary Film and Video from Stanford University and a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology from New York University.
