Dr. Joni Buffalohead is the Tribal Operations Manager for Comprehensive Care Services, a BlueCross BlueShield of Minnesota subsidiary and Third Party Administrator (TPA) for health plans. In her role, Dr. Buffalohead is responsible for Tribal business operations and special projects improving health for Tribal communities. Research interests: addressing health disparities by identifying medication-related needs with Indigenous health practices; appropriate dosing and drug therapy for American Indian Elders. Dr. Buffalohead founded The Medicine Project and the non-profit organization PEJUTA: Indigenous Medication Therapy Management (MTM) Services; led efforts for Minnesota Legislation to develop pilot program for pharmaceutical care for American Indian Elders qualified for Medicaid (2003); and, 2005 MN legislation adding Pharmaceutical Care services (a.k.a. MTM), as a Medicaid service available to all.
